Nymphomaniac (Vol I)Synopsis On a cold winter's evening, the old, charming bachelor Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård) finds the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) beaten up in an alleyway. He brings her home to his flat where he tends to her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe, over the next eight chapters, recounts the lustful story of her highly erotic life from infancy to the age of 50. Seligman, a widely read man, connects and analyzes Joe's stories with what he has read about.
Nymphomaniac (Vol II)Synopsis The first volume depicts a heavenly journey where Joe realizes her sexuality as a nymphomaniac; whereas the second volume delves into the darker side of her adulthood - the gateway to torture and hell. The story continues with Joe encountering Jerome again, yet ironically, she loses all her sexual sensation. She tries to settle down and convince herself to live an ordinary life with Jerome, however, she cannot resist the temptation of her constant desire for sex. She embarks on another journey of lust, hoping to rediscover her sexuality through inter-racial relationship, homosexuality and even perversions and sadomasochism. As Seligman listens to Joe's erotic and fascinating story, Joe is ready to pay what it takes in order to be true to herself.
